Thousands bid farewell to youth killed by police in Şırnak

Thousands bid farewell to 16-year-old Adem İrtegün who was killed by police in Yeşilyurt neighborhood of Şırnak last night. The youth's body was held at Şırnak State Hospital morgue till the morning and then handed over to family after postmortem.

Thousands of people joined the funeral in Şırnak where life came to a standsill today as all the workplaces were shut down today in protest at the ongoing killings and attacks by state forces.

“Revenge”, “Murderer Erdoğan” and “Martyrs are immortal” were the main slogans chanted by the people joining the funeral, who were as many as 10 thousand, as they gathered at a local mosque for religious duty before burial.

Thousands later marched to the Yeşilyurt neighborhood where the youth was killed last night, and then to the neighborhood cemetery where he was laid to rest.

Following one minute's silence to the accompaniment of Kurdish anthem "Çerxa Şoreşé", speeches were held at the cemetery, all of which called for an end to the persecution of Kurdish people by the government and security forces of the Turkish state.

After the speeches and burial, the mass went to the tent set up in Yeşilyurt neighborhood to receive condolence visits.
