TEVDA President calls on Yazidis to vote for HDP

TEVDA President Seid Hesen has called on Yazidi Kurds to vote for the HDP to help it exceed the 10 percent threshold in the general elections to take place in Turkey and North Kurdistan on 7 June.

TEVDA President Seid Hesen has called on Yazidi Kurds to vote for the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) to help it exceed the 10 percent threshold in the general elections to take place in Turkey and North Kurdistan on 7 June. “HDP will bring peace to not only Kurds, but also Turks, Arabs, Armenians as well as all peoples, belief groups and other communities”, he stressed.

In an interview to ANF, TEVDA President stressed that the HDP would also guarantee peace and support for the process of resolution initiated by Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

“All peoples and belief groups, including the Yazidi people in diaspora, West and South Kurdistan will gain strength within the HDP. This is why every single vote has a crucial role”, Hesen said.

Recalling that HDP co-president Selahattin Demirtaş was among those who provided the greatest support to the Yazidi people after the 3 August massacre they suffered in Sinjar last year, Hesen remarked that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on the other hand, has long run a smear campaign against the Yazidi Kurds and supported the ISIS. "In response to Erdoğan who aims to pursue a policy of genocide against the Yazidis as a continuation of the Ottomans, all Yazidi Kurds should go to the ballot box and vote for HDP in order to advocate their history and belief. This election is an opportunity to do this", he underlined.

TEVDA President continued, pointing out that the Yazidi people should support the HDP, a component of all cultures and faiths, in order to protect their own will, history and belief. Recalling that the Yazidis will be represented in the parliament by the three Yazidi candidates nominated by the HDP, Hesen said this would be a first if HDP managed to exceed the election threshold.

We see our own will and self-strength within the HDP, Hesen said, emphasising that the Yazidi people should avoid remarks that argue Sinjar and North Kurdistan to be different from each other.

TEVDA President Seid Hesen ended by calling on all Yazidi people in Europe and North Kurdistan to go to the polls and cast their votes for the HDP and work to make sure that it exceeds the election threshold.
