Spring is a very special season for the guerrillas in the mountains of Kurdistan. In most mountain regions winter takes place under a thick blanket of snow. Movement is limited, and food is usually only available in the form of long-life foods such as dry legumes and rice. Traditionally the winter months are the time when the fighters train and read a lot.

When the snow melts and the nature start to turn green, the joy of life in the mountains explodes and the search for edible plants begins. ANF correspondent Zeynep Nergiz Botan captured this atmosphere with her camera.
