Soldiers and police housed in civilian estates in Hakkari

The AKP has turned Hakkari into a military barracks. Now it is building 1,331 new houses for soldiers and police officers within civilian settlements in Hakkari center and its districts.

Almost everywhere in Hakkari center, districts and villages, many military barracks, posts and police stations have been built. The Turkish state, which has deployed of thousands of soldiers and police officers in Hakkari, has built thousands of military lodgings in different city centers. Now the AKP, which turned Hakkari into a military barracks during the ongoing war in the region, has started building houses for hundreds of soldiers and police officers.

In addition to the Gupsi Earthquake Houses built in Gupsi, in Hakkari, over 400 new houses are now being built for soldiers and police officers. Right next to the houses built for soldiers and police officers, there are houses for earthquake victims. More than 400 houses are being built by TOKI for soldiers and police officers inside the civil earthquake estate. The houses that are about to be completed will be allocated to soldiers and police officers soon.

In addition to the houses in Hakkari center, an extra 700 houses for the police are being built in the district of Gever. In the center of Gever, 230 houses within civilian estate were allocated to soldiers. The construction of hundreds of dwellings for soldiers and police within civilian estates has caused the people’s reaction. People said that the state deliberately build military and police housing inside civilian estates.

According to the residents, housing soldiers and police within civilian estates is yet another way to try and assimilate people.
