The curfew in Şırnak's Cizre district, in effect since September 4, has been lifted today as a result of the resistance by local people despite massacres, and the solidarity with this resistance across Northern Kurdistan for the last 3 days.
As many as 23 people have been documented killed by Turkish state forces since the beginning of the curfew and terror in the town.
Hundreds of people have entered the town as of early this morning after the removal of the curfew as of 7 a.m. local time, including HDP Co-Chair Figen Yüksekdağ, a group of deputies, representatives of DTK, KJA and NGOs, human rights activists and presidents of bar associations in the Kurdish region.
HDP Şırnak MP Faysal Sarıyıldız who has been in Cizre since the very beginning of the terror and crackdown by Turkish state forces, has welcomed the politicians at the entrance of the town.
Sarıyıldız told that; "Over 20 people have lost their lives and dozens of others got wounded during this process. The people were hindered from meeting their basic needs even, but still resisted the attacks of state forces with heavy weapons. They protected their honour and dignity. Cizre has paid a very heavy price but succeeded by never surrendering to the policies of the state and not allowing their honour to be trampled down."
HDP MP stated that the people of Cizre, who have been detached from life for 10 days, are in urgent need of basic needs which they were deprived of in this process, adding; "Yet, they have proved that these policies do not work."
Sarıyıldız said Cizre could be the address of a new beginning and called for the continuation of solidarity with the people in the town.
