People from Kobanê who had to flee to North Kurdistan after the attacks of the ISIS gangs are continuing to return to their home town. Recently 5 families who were staying in the Ercis district of Van returned to Kobanê. The families, mostly comprising the elderly and children, told the DIHA news agency about their feelings on returning home.

Mehemmed Isman, one of the returnees, said the fighters of the Kurdish liberation movement have brought unity to the Kurdish people and Kobanê had been the concrete realization of this, adding that this unity of the Kurdish people will liberate the whole of Kurdistan as it had liberated Kobanê.

Isman added that the Kurdish people got to know each other better during the Kobanê resistance as they were in strong solidarity with each other. Isman said Kurdish unity was proved to the whole world and added that the YPG and YPJ fighters who liberated Kobanê also liberated Sinjar. “Long live Kobanê, long live the PKK, long live the YPG and YPJ,” he cheered as he ended his words.

Another person from Kobanê, Semco Wali, also stressed the unity of the Kurdish people achieved through the Kobanê resistance and said all the Kurds will mobilise for other Kurds whenever they are facing repression and jointly struggle for their liberation.

Another returnee, Xanım Isman, stressed the role of women in the PKK, saying that the Kurdish women now have the opportunity to struggle for their own liberation and added that it was the Kurdish women who had won the victory in Kobanê. Isman recalled the words of Öcalan who said “Kurdistan will be liberated by the women’s revolution” adding that the Kobanê resistance had been a proof of that. Isman said the youth and women of Kurdistan were struggling for liberation with a strong belief in it and that is why they are achieving victory.
