Women and young people led the resistance that started when the Iraqi army attacked Shengal. The resistance won, and the Iraqi forces were forced to withdraw at around 02:00 on Friday night. However, since the wounded fighters who were taken prisoner have not yet been released, the resistance of the people continues.
According to information obtained from the Shengal Autonomous Administration and Shengal defense forces, as a result of the resistance, the army was forced to meet with Shengal Autonomous Administration and YBŞ officials.
Following the meetings held on Friday night, the army decided not to make new military transfers to Shengal and to withdraw its current forces. Thereupon, the action in front of the Intelligence Directorate was also terminated.
In the attack carried out by the Iraqi army in the Yarmouk Neighborhood of Shengal on 18 March, 3 YBŞ fighters were injured, and 5 fighters were taken prisoner.
Following the attack, the people of Shengal started a resistance.
