The Democratic Union Party’s (PYD) first congress in the Cizîre (Jazireh) region has ended. At the congress the party organisation and constitution was revised in accordance with the cantonal system and a Cizîre canton party assembly established.
The congress took place yesterday in the town of Rimêlan in the Aram Dikran culture and art centre and was attended by 450 delegates and 150 guests.
Following speeches by PYD Co-president Asya Abdullah, representatives of the Cizîr Canton Legislative and Executive Assemblies and of TEV-DEM and other parties, the congress continued without media attendance.
According to information provided by the Congress Preparation Committee, reports regarding organisational activities in the towns of the canton were read out, following which there was broad discussion.
A proposal to reorganise the internal functions, constitution and regulations of the PYD in accordance with the cantonal system was put to a vote and after debate and some changes were made the proposal was accepted.
According to the new party constitution, the administration of the PYD Cizîre Canton organisation comprises a 30-person assembly and a 7-person executive council.
Following the approval of the party constitution, elections were held for the PYD Cizîre canton assembly. The 30 candidates from a list of 64 who received the most votes were elected. 6 of the assembly members are from Qamişlo, 3 from Dirbêsiyê, 3 from Serêkaniyê, 3 from Hesekê, 2 from Til Temir, 3 from Amûdê, 4 from Girkê Legê, 3 from Dêrik and 3 from Tirbespiyê.
The Executive Assembly of the PYD Cizîre organisation comprising 7 persons will be elected at a meeting of the PYD Canton Assembly.
At the end of the congress PYD assembly member Hesen Koçer made a speech, calling on all party members to intensify their work in accordance with the new party constitution and the decisions passed at the congress.
