İmralı delegation members Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Keskin Bayındır, Özgür Erol and İbrahim Bilmez from Asrin Law Office, DEM Party Foreign Relations Commission Co-Spokesperson Berdan Öztürk, MPs Gülcan Kaçmaz Sayyiğit and Mehmet Kamaç held a series of talks in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
The talks followed two meetings with Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı F Type High Security Closed Prison on 28 December 2024 and 22 January 2025.
On Sunday, the delegation with the KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) President, Masoud Barzani. In a statement issued after the meeting, the Barzani Press Office said that he was ready to support the progress of the new process and to do his part in this regard.
On Monday, the İmralı delegation met with Nechirvan Barzani, the president of the Kurdistan Region. The meeting took place at Barzani's office in Hewlêr.
The delegation met with PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) Leader Bafel Talabani and Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani, in Dabashan (home of Jalal Talabani) in Sulaymaniyah today.
During the meeting, the İmralı delegation conveyed Abdullah Öcalan's greetings and messages to Bafel Jalal Talabani, as well as explaining their decisions, policies, and options regarding regional political developments. They also discussed Turkey’s peace process and their talks with Abdullah Öcalan.
Bafel Talabani expressed his views and strategy on the new phase of peace in Turkey, saying: "We support any initiative that preserves our people's rights in Turkey, and the PUK will contribute to this historic effort, which President Mam Jalal laid the groundwork for in 1993."
The PUK President further reiterated that the region will not see peace and stability until the Kurdish issue is settled.
In that context, he said: "As we previously said, the Kurdish issue will not be settled through weapons and war because the only option is returning to serious dialogue. We hope that we can all work together to make this historic chance a success through partnership, brotherhood, and a dedication to achieving peace and security."
"We believe in brotherhood and peaceful coexistence, and will never be a threat to any neighboring country and we are eager for all of us to live in brotherhood and peace, Bafel Talabani emphasised.
He said: "Today, we will take the initiative to ensure that dialogue dominates over threats, and we will extend a hand of brotherhood to everyone. We hope for a sincere desire to enhance Kurdish-Turkish brotherhood, as well as the success of this national effort."
On the other hand, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, expressed in a Facebook post the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's unwavering commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution of the Kurdish issue in Turkey.
He emphasised that the PUK remains steadfast in its vision, following the path of President Mam Jalal, and will continue to support any peaceful efforts to address the issue.
Regarding the visit of the Imrali delegation to Dabashan, Qubad Talabani stated, "The PUK has a clear and steadfast vision regarding the resolution of the Kurdish issue in Turkey, in line with the path of President Mam Jalal. As always, it will wholeheartedly support a peaceful resolution and proudly fulfil any national duty within this context."
He further stated that PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani reiterated the party's support for a peaceful resolution of the Kurdish issue in Turkey. He also expressed the PUK's readiness to offer all forms of assistance and support to strengthen peace and safeguard the rights of the Kurdish people in Turkey.
