In the neighborhood of Firat in Mardin’s Nusaybin district, an armed police officer threatened small children during the curfew imposed as part of the pandemic control measures. The incident was revealed with a video circulated on Saturday evening.

The video shows the policeman chasing children in the front yard of a block of flats, screaming and shooting into the air. He gets hold of a child and drags him to an armored police car. The child is eight-year-old B.E., who suffers from a mental disability. According to eyewitnesses, the child shakes from fear, traumatized by the shock.

After the video was widely shared and sharply condemned in the social media, the District Governorate issued a statement at a late hour. According to the statement, the incident occurred on April 24th and the policeman in question was suspended.

Nusaybin is one of the towns in Northern Kurdistan that was widely destroyed by Turkish "security forces" in 2015/2016.
