Number of coronavirus cases increases rapidly in Van

According to official figures, the total number of coronavirus cases in Van is 380, while 8 people lost their lives, 44,000 are in quarantine.

The number of coronavirus cases in Van has increased to 380 in the last few days. The increase is a consequence of the lack of adequate measures to counter the pandemic.

However, despite the increase in the number of cases, workplaces such as shopping malls and hairdressers have been given the green light to open and this caused concern among people.

According to official figures, the total number of coronavirus cases in Van is 380, while 8 people lost their lives, 44,000 are in quarantine. In the past weeks coronavirus cases were detected in the villages of the  Çaldıran, Başkale and Çatak districts.

In particular on 28 March coronavirus cases were detected following the presence of people coming from Istanbul to offer condolences in the village of Han in Çaldıran. Again, in the village of Örmetaş in Başkale, people who came from Istanbul were detected and proved positive, and after a few days the number of cases in the village increased to 60.

The number of cases however, started to increase following the establishment of a condolence tent in the Ortanca village in Ipekyolu where the number of coronavirus cases rose to 93 in the last two days. It is stated that hundreds of people attending the condolence tent contracted the virus and then spread it to the districts and villages, and to Van center. It is reported that these people who went to the condolence tent had no health check done.

Although there is a decrease in the number of coronavirus cases detected in Turkish cities, the rapid increase in Van has caused concerns. It has been reported that people in the center and districts of Van do not comply with the social distancing rule in the streets and do not wear a mask. Despite the increase in the number of cases in Van, shopping malls and hairdressers are open, increasing concerns.
