In Amed (Diyarbakır) the Reconstruct Kobanê Conference began today attended by 350 delegates from Kobanê, Kurdistan and Europe. The conference began with a minute’s silence in memory of those who have died during the resistance in Kobanê.
Following opening speeches by DBP Co-president Kamuran Yüksek and host Diyarbakır Metropolitan municipality Co-mayor Fırat Anlı, Kobanê Canton Assembly Co-president Enwer Muslim spoke.
Enwer Muslim: Kobanê is a great honour for us
Muslim said the resistance in Kobanê Canton was an example to the entire world, adding that revolutionary women such as Arin Mirxan, Zozan, Viyan Peyman and Sibel Bulut, who had laid down their lives, had been immortalised. He said that thanks to the resistance of such women Kobanê had become known all over the world. “This is a great honour for us,” he added.
Muslim continued, saying that what was happening in Kobanê was a continuation of the bitter history of the Kurds. “We are still resisting, we have cleansed our city of ISIS and soon we will completely wipe them up,” he said.
He added that he expected detailed discussion to take place at the conference regarding the reconstruction of infrastructure in the city to enable its residents to return.
'It is time to keep our promise to the martyrs’
Muslim said that at the 2-day conference the Kurds and their friends would discuss what should be done in Kobanê. “Come and let us rebuild the revolutionary headquarters of Kobanê in a manner befitting our revolutionary martyrs. Let us take ownership of the legacy of our martyrs and build a democratic, environmentalist egalitarian life in our city. Let us keep our promise to our martyrs and begin construction so that our people may return,” he said, concluding his speech.
