More NGOs join in the call for peace

Following the joint demand by 99 NGOs for an immediate ceasefire to be declared both by the Turkish army and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), 45 NGOs in Hakkari held a press conference in Hakkari Chamber of Industry and Trade to join the call.

Intensive debate over the so called government 'opening initiative'is going on. Representatives of NGOs’ Hakkari Branches stated that the Kurdish opening policy, proposed by Justice and Development Party (AKP) administration, was not developed. Ahmet Sen, head of Hakkari Chamber of Industry and Trade, made the statement on behalf of 45 NGOs.

Sen reminded that increasing conflicts, deaths and other casualties occurred last month and added that the military operations must end and PKK must call a new ceasefire in order to establish a peaceful environment in which talking about peace would be possible.”

However, TSK’s military operations and bombing on mountain areas are continuing. Just before the meeting took place in Hakkari, TSK launched a new operation in rural area in Hakkari and Lice district of Diyarbakir.

There was also mass meeting organized in Adana against military operations.
