Mine planted by soldiers kills two brothers - UPDATE

Two brothers grazing sheep in Siirt's Yarımtepe village stepped on a mine planted by Turkish soldiers. Muhammed Açıkça (12) and his brother Kadir Açıkça (9) both lost their lives.

Brothers Muhammed Açıkça (12) and Kadir Açıkça (9) were grazing sheep in Deşta Dêrê (Yarımtepe) village in Siirt's Şirvan district when they stepped on a mine planted by Turkish soldiers.

While the brothers were rushed to Şirvan Public Hospital, Muhammed Açıkça lost his life here, while heavily injured Kadir Açıkça was referred to Siirt Public Hospital following a first response here. Kadir also lost his life despite all the medical efforts made to save him.

The mines planted by Turkish troops in Yarımtepe village are yet to be cleared although the Hürmüs outpost responsible for the planting of mines in the village was moved to the Maden village.

Villagers complain that the numerous written applications they have filed for the clearance of mines so far yielded no results.
