16 people who lost their lives as a result of heavy attacks by state forces in Şırnak's Cizre district were laid to rest yesterday.

Around 100 thousand people accompanied by HDP deputies and the representatives of NGOs bid farewell to the civilians massacred by the state forces during the curfew in Cizre.

Receiving the bodies of the slain civilians at the entrance of the district, the mass later took them to the Newroz Square in Sur neighbourhood where a funeral procession took place, witnessing a great anger and heart-breaking laments.

In the meantime the shutters of the shops in Yafes and Nusaybin streets remained closed while some shopkeepers left the doors open to meet the needs of the people free.

While the coffins were covered with yellow-red-green flags, families of the murdered civilians carried the photos of their beloved ones. "Şehîd namirin" [Martyrs are immortal] was the one single slogan chanted during the march to the square.

The crowd broke down in tears while the 70-cm coffin of 35-day-old baby Muhammed Tahir Yaramış, who died after being denied access to the hospital, was taken out of the vehicle. The mother of Yaramış damned the AKP and the Turkish president Erdoğan in tears.

The funeral ceremony in Cizre was also followed by many national and international press agencies, while 21 bullets were fired into the air for 21 people killed during the nine-day curfew and crackdown.
