Participants of the march from Amed to Amara, organized by the People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Youth Assembly to mark the 76th birthday of Abdullah Öcalan, attended the April 4 Festival held in the Halfeti district of Urfa on Thursday.
In addition to the activists, masses gathered at April 4 Park early in the morning and launched a march from Halfeti to Amara on the second day of the April 4 festival.
Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs, DEM Party co-mayors, Peace Mothers Assembly members were among the participants of the march, organized under the leadership of the Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA).
The march was marked by slogans celebrating Öcalan’s birthday, applause and anthems. The Peace Mothers joined the march with olive branches.
People danced to Kurdish songs as the crowd reached the exit of the district.
Speaking here, TJA activist Fatma Ablay highlighted the importance of April 4 for the Kurdish people and stated the following:
“Today we are here not only for Leader Öcalan, but also for our existence against the denial of Kurdish identity, language and existence.
The struggle started by Kurdish People's Leader Mr. Abdullah Öcalan introduced Kurds to the world. On April 1, young people launched a march for a democratic society and for the physical freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Today, this march will continue until Amara under the leadership of women. Today, the philosophy of 'Jin, Jîyan, Azadî' [Woman, Life, Freedom] has spread all over the world, proving women's loyalty to their leader. The demand of women and the Kurdish people is clear; the state must take steps. On March 8, on Newroz, March 21, and here today, the people have demonstrated their will. This is the will of women. Ankara must recognize this will and take steps immediately. The physical freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan must be ensured as soon as possible.”
