Kurdish parties in Kirkuk condemn Turkish attacks

Representatives of the Kurdish parties in Kirkuk have condemned the Turkish state's attacks on settlement areas in southern Kurdistan, stressing that Turkey has no right to violate Iraqi sovereignty.

The Kurdish parties in Kirkuk protested against the airstrikes carried out by the Turkish state on the Maxmur Refugee Camp and the Shengal area last week, which claimed the life of 7 civilians, 4 women in Maxmur and 3 men in Shengal, who were originally from Kobanê and earning their lives in Shengal.

Representatives of the PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan), Goran, Komela İslami, Yekgirtu and the Communist Party attended the press conference held after a meeting by the mentioned parties in the Communist Party's headquarters, while the KDP did not participate.

Speaking here, Communist Party member Bextiyar Mihemed said that the attacks by the Turkish state on South Kurdistan are unacceptable. He said they condemned the Turkish attacks on Shengal and Maxmur, stressing the need for Kurdish to must adopt a common stance.

Bextiyar Mihemed spoke to ANF and said the following regarding Turkish Ambassador Fatih Yildiz’s interference in Kirkuk’s internal affairs; “We condemn the Turkish state’s any and all interferences in Kirkuk. Turkey must respect the sovereignty of its neighbors and of Iraq, and refrain from any intervention in Kirkuk. Kirkuk is a very colorful place where there is a peaceful coexistence of different population groups.”
