Kobanê Aid and Solidarity Institution Co-President Gülistan Etti who spoke to ANF said that aid has become more urgent in Kobanê where tens of children who lost their parents during the last attack are in dire need of life supplies.
The construction efforts in Kobanê continue. Tens of thousands of civilians returned to Kobanê after the liberation of the city but warzone conditions prevent the production of resources for the population and the reconstruction efforts. The conference for the construction of Kobanê added another dimension to solidarity campaigns but livelihood needs have increased even more after the recent massacre. Thousands children and elderly who lost their family members during the massacre have difficulty satisfying their basic needs.
Gülistan Etti highlighted the solidarity efforts of people from North Kurdistan, DBP municipalities and people of Kurdistan living in Europe. Etti recalled the Kobanê conference in Brussels and emphasized that several international institutions did not leave Kobanê alone during the town’s reconstruction.
MUNICIPALITIES HAVE GIVEN THE BIGGEST SUPPORT
Etti stated that people and municipalities of North Kurdistan kept Kobanê alive since the beginning of the war and municipalities such as those in Amed, Mardin and Suruç supported the satisfaction of infrastructural and livelihood needs. Etti recalled the recent destruction of Kobanê and said that they were determined to distribute all incoming aid equally and fairly. Etti stated that they identified the civilians’ urgent needs and distribute incoming accordingly.
TURKEY NEVER AIDED KOBANÊ
Etti rebuked the claims that the Turkish state was sending aid into Kobanê and said that Turkey has never aided the town that has been under siege and attack for the past 4 years. Etti stated that Turkey turned its back on Kobanê even during the peak of the war and prevented the aid efforts of people of North Kurdistan and several international institutions.
INCOMING AID INADEQUATE
Etti emphasized that war continues in the town and described incoming aid as inadequate. According to Etti, more than 20 thousand families returned to Kobanê after the war last year and thousands of families live in nearby villages. Etti stated that the recent unification with Cizîrê Canton would provide some relief for these families, but incoming aid remains to be insufficient. Etti said that continuing attacks make the transportation of aid more difficult, and warzone conditions limit production inside Kobanê. Etti stated that the villagers could not plow their fields and there was dire need for food and cleaning supplies as well as clothes.
TENS OF CHILDREN WHO LOST THEIR PARENTS IN DIRE NEED
Etti underlined that there is more need for solidarity than ever after the ISIS attack on Kobanê on June 25. Etti stated that tens of children lost their parents and are in dire need of food, clothes and diapers. Etti emphasized the importance of continuing the education of these children, and called on the world to grow the solidarity with Kobanê.
