Ahmed Qeremus, co-chair of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), met with the speaker of the South Kurdistan regional parliament, Rewaz Fayeq (PUK), in Hewlêr (Erbil). After the conversation, the KNK co-chair spoke to the press and commented on the content of his visit.

"As KNK, we support the work of the speaker of the parliament and are against a civil war. A Kurdish civil war would be unacceptable. The situation in Southern Kurdistan is evident enough. In the coming days, we will visit parties and political actors to unite against such a war,” said Qeremus.

A statement published on the website of the regional parliament said the following: "The region of Southern Kurdistan is experiencing a very difficult time economically and politically at the moment. In our opinion, the only way to get through this period is dialogue. We advocate dialogue. In order to avoid a fratricidal war and to find a solution for the conflict between the different sides, a basis for dialogue must be created.

PUK politician Rewaz Fayeq emphasized last week that the parliament is the highest decision-making body and that all party-political interests must be put aside for the benefit of the Kurdish people.
