Making a written statement on the anniversary of the Anfal genocide, the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) said, "Today is the anniversary of Anfal, the biggest genocide of the century, which took place as a result of the brutal attack of the Baath regime 36 years ago. The process of destroying the people of Kurdistan with the brutal attack was carried to a new stage under the name of Anfal."

The statement said: "Although 36 years have passed, thousands of corpses have still not been returned to Kurdistan, and the people who suffered in the massacre have not been compensated and provided with the necessary assistance. As the Kurdistan National Congress, we consider it our duty to share this concern and call on the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region to declare 14 April as a day of mourning. Memorials should be erected wherever our people have been persecuted. We hope that the commemorations will form the basis of Kurdish unity against oppression and persecution. Other countries should also recognise Anfal as genocide and take the necessary steps to do so."
