KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council Co-Presidency has released a statement to mark the 33rd anniversary of the July 14 resistance which -it underlined- continued living in Rojava, Shengal and Kobanê today.
Commemorating the martyrs of the “Great Death Fast” resistance, Kemal Pir, M. Hayri Durmuş, Akif Yılmaz and Ali Çiçek, with respect, KCK vowed to keep their memories alive in the Kurdish struggle, and to realize their longing for freedom.
"DİYARBAKIR PRISON TURNED INTO A GRAVE FOR THE FASCISTIC COLONIALIST REGIME'
KCK recalled in its statement that the September 12 fascism, which was put into practice with a fascistic coup 35 years ago, perpetrated an unprecedented system of heavy torture and repression in Diyarbakır prison with an aim to bury the Kurdistan people and the PKK, their hope of freedom, into the prison.
"Yet, the Martyrs of Amed Prison Resistance embodied by Kemal Pir, Hayri Durmuş, Akif Yılmaz and Ali Çiçek, the true comrades of Leader Apo [referring to Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan], proved the failure of colonialist fascistic regime's plans to the entire world by sacrificing their lives. With the reality of such a tradition of resistance and the August 15 Initiative that Leader Apo developed under the command of comrade Agît on the basis of the desire to keep the memories of martyrs alive, Diyarbakır prison turned into a graveyard for not Kurds but the colonialist fascistic regime."
KCK pointed out that the historic July 14 Resistance has become the name of a reality judging fascism and sentencing it to death, while also manifesting the resistance and spirit of the peoples that settled accounts with September 12 and defeated it ideologically.
"No matter under which circumstances, those siding with a dignified and free life in the spirit of this resistance, forming an organization for this purpose and endowed with the means of struggle, will definitely succeed. This achievement will bury not humanity but fascism into the grave. The July 14 resistance and its consequences are the most significant evidences of this reality", KCK said.
Likening the defeat and burial of September 12 fascism in Amed with July 14 resistance to the defeat of ISIS and its allies in four parts of Kurdistan today, KCK said that; "Brave people of Kurdistan endowed with the spirit of July 14 Resistance and Leader Apo's doctrine of freedom, democracy and socialism are succeeding today in four parts of Kurdistan, Shengal and Kobanê in the first place, and entire Middle East. This achievement doesn't develop on the line of revival-resistance alone, as there is also going on a process of liberation and establishment. The struggle of protecting the existence has reached the level of gaining freedom. Building of democratic autonomy, which we consider to be one of the milestones of freedom, and realization of the democratic nation project will be actualized with the spirit of July 14. This is an indication of how the memory of the martyrs could be embraced."
'FASCISM WILL BE BURIED IN TURKEY AS WELL’
KCK emphasized that the historic July 14 Resistance was the reality of burying the September 12 fascism not only in Kurdistan but also in Turkey. KCK stated that this reality was reflected in the results of June 7 elections and this reflection showed how the perpetrators of September 12 fascism should be brought to account for their crimes against humanity. KCK also said that the election results were a promise to July 14 martyrs that the PKK would keep their memories alive. KCK remarked that the freedom and democracy bloc yearned by comrades like Kemal Pir was realized by HDP, and the will to represent all differences would be strengthened and transformed into a force of collective action that will bury fascism in Turkey as well as Kurdistan.
‘LET US RESIST LIKE THOSE WHO TOOK PART IN THE JULY 14 RESISTANCE‘
KCK continued, emphasizing that forces fighting against ISIS fascism in Kobanê, Şengal and Rojava are following the path of July 14 martyrs and Leader Apo, and the forces that finance ISIS fascism are those who supported September 12 fascism, and called on peoples to resist like those who took part in the July 14 Resistance in order to create a democratic union against ISIS fascism, which has been haunting the people of the region.
KCK noted that there were more opportunities to fight against fascism now than there had ever been, and emphasized the Kurdish Freedom Movement’s growing and diversifying mobilization and struggle experiences as its biggest strengths. The statement also underlined that using this strength was the only way to keep the memories of those who sacrificed themselves for humanity alive. Remarking that it was now the time to establish the largest democracy bloc, gain freedom and bury fascism, KCK said that the prerequisite for these was the liberation of Leader Apo, who has kept the resistance spirit of July 14 now fighting against ISIS alive in order to realize martyrs’ yearnings for freedom.
The KCK statement on July 14 ended with the following sentences: “The memory of July 14 Martyrs requires the united struggle of all democracy forces. The memory of July 14 Martyrs lives in our struggle and it is time to carry our resistance to victory with the spirit of July 14.”
