10Haber journalist Furkan Karabay was detained after publishing news and social media posts about the investigation and the subsequent arrest of the mayor of Esenyurt, Ahmet Özer. The mayor was replaced by a government-appointed trustee and was arrested.

Karabey, who was questioned by the police, was charged with "targeting a public official", "insulting a public official" and "publicly spreading misleading information".

Brought to the courthouse, journalist Karabey was referred to the Criminal Court of Peace on Duty with a request for his arrest on similar allegations without taking his statement to the prosecutor. The judge issued an arrest warrant for the journalist on the same grounds.
