Iraqi army attacks people in Duhol, Shengal

Escalating tension in Shengal region after Iraq’s military action against the Yazidi people.

Local people are staging protests for the withdrawal of the Iraqi army forces that launched an attack on the Yazidi town of Shengal on May 2nd.

The people demand that the Iraqi forces dispatched to the Yazidi region withdraw and do not attack their settlements again. While the Iraqi troops have retreated from some settlements in the face of popular protests, they maintain their presence in several villages and towns.

The people protesting against the military aggression in Duhol sub-district of Shengal were attacked by Iraqi soldiers on Saturday. The Iraqi forces removed the tent set up by the people and tried to expel them from the area.

Tensions continue in Duhol in the wake of the attack by the military forces of the Iraqi government.
