Co-chairs of the Human Rights Association (IHD), Eren Keskin and Hüseyin Küçükbalaban, attended the General Assembly of the organization along with numerous politicians and representatives of civil society organizations.

Photographs of those who disappeared in custody and victims of unsolved murders were displayed in the hall, alongside banners highlighting the state’s policy of impunity and the suffering of seriously ill prisoners.

Eren Keskin drew attention to the 'Call for Peace and a Democratic Society' made by Abdullah Öcalan on 27 February, stating that even the act of discussing peace gives hope to society.

Keskin also commemorated the 'Four' who fell as martyrs by setting themselves on fire in Diyarbakır (Amed) Prison in 1982, as well as the revolutionary Ibrahim Kaypakkaya, who was murdered in prison in 1973.

Ercan Yılmaz, Chair of the IHD Diyarbakır Branch, emphasized that the Kurdish question must be resolved through democratic means and that the fundamental rights of the Kurdish people must be guaranteed.

Yılmaz said: "The identity, language, and culture of the Kurdish people must be constitutionally protected to ensure a lasting solution to this century-old issue, this century-old issue that has directly affected the lives of millions. Peace is not merely the absence of war. Peace also requires confronting the truth, establishing justice, healing collective traumas, and rebuilding trust among peoples."

Hüseyin Küçükbalaban, co-chair of the IHD, said: "We remain committed to peace. Whether or not the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) lays down arms, the act of disarmament would bring great joy to human rights defenders, as it would be a step toward securing the right to life."

Küçükbalaban called for the implementation of the "right to hope," the end of the policy of impunity in cases of enforced disappearances and unsolved murders, and the constitutional protection of Kurdish rights.

Doğan Hatun, co-mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, said: "We are living through historic days. These days will surely be recorded in history. The comrades who gave their lives on this path will never be forgotten."
