HPG: Turkish army shelled guerrilla areas 1045 times

The occupying Turkish army shelled the guerrilla areas in Medya Defense Zones 1045 times over the weekend.

Despite a ceasefire declared by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced on Monday that Turkish warplanes carried out at least twelve air strikes on guerrilla areas over the weekend. During the same period, HPG also recorded nine helicopter attacks and 1024 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers.

The HPG statement listed the details of the latest wave of attacks against guerrilla areas as follows:

"Attacks by warplanes and helicopters

On March 22 and 23, Turkish warplanes carried out 12 airstrikes, targeting the Girê Kun, Mêranê, Girgaşê, Kanî Sarkê, Zengil areas in Garê region 6 times; Bêşîlî Resistance Area in Metîna region once, Girê Cûdî Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 5 times.

On March 22 and 23, the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed 9 times by attack helicopters.

Attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers

On March 22 and 23, the Turkish army carried out a total of 1024 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers, targeting the areas of Şehîd Şerîf, Berê Zînê, Lolan, Kendekola, Sinînê in Xakurkê region 64 times; the areas of Girê Reşîd, Girê Zengil, Zêvkê, Yekmalê, Mijê, Dêreşê, Girgaşê, Girê Kun, Mêranê in Garê region 180 times; the areas of Bêşîlî and Serê Metîna in Metîna region 447 times; the areas of Girê Amediyê and Girê Bahar in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 333 times.

On March 22 at 15:10, a tactical projector set up directly opposite an entrance to our war tunnels in Girê Amediyê Resistance Area was destroyed.”
