HPG: Guerrillas downed a Turkish helicopter, killing 14 soldiers

HPG Press Office announced that guerrillas downed a Sikorsky type helicopter in Hakkari's Çukurca district on June 8th.

HPG (People's Defense Forces) Press Office released the following statement about an action carried out by guerrilla forces targeting a Turkish helicopter two days ago;

“As part of the Martyr Bedran Gundikremo and Martyr Nalin Muş Revolutionary Initiative, our forces in Zap State carried out an assault against the invading Turkish army.

Tracking the enemy's activities that intensified around the Havan and Koordine hills in Çelê (Çukurca) district of Hakkari, our forces targeted a Sikorsky helicopter that headed for this region for a change of military units at 21:30 on June 8th.

The helicopter was targeted and fired on from three sides, and eventually fell down in Martyr Cudi valley. Following this assault, the Turkish army intervened the scene with the support of unmanned aerial vehicles, fighter jets and Cobra helicopters, and removed the wreckage and bodies of dead soldiers from the scene.

14 soldiers, 2 of whom were pilots, were killed as result of the action.

Following reconnaissance flights the Turkish army conducted over the area till the evening of June 9th, fighter jets conducted a bombardment on Ertuş, Karker and Kokerê areas.”
