Guerrilla Siser: Bêrîtan is the spirit of victory and freedom

Emphasising that Bêrîtan's stance against the collaborators is very important, HPG guerrilla Aslan Siser said, “Bêrîtan is the spirit of victory and freedom.”

Kurdistan's freedom fighters continue to fight against the enemy in the spirit of Bêrîtans and Egîds with the spirit and enthusiasm of revolution. One of these fighters is HPG (People’s Defense Forces) guerrilla Aslan Siser.

Speaking to ANF, Aslan Siser, who is fighting as a member of the mobile team, remembered Beritan Hêvî (Gülnaz Karataş), a guerrilla commander in the ranks of the ARGK (People's Liberation Army of Kurdistan, the predecessor of the HPG), and pioneer of the Women's Army. She threw herself into an abyss in Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) on 25 October 1992 to avoid falling into the hands of the KDP, which collaborated with Turkey. Because of her exceptional courage and her passionate character, Beritan became a historical figure for the Kurds. Songs were written and innumerable newborns were named after her. Her life was portrayed in the movie “Beritan” by Kurdish director Halil Dağ in 2006.

Guerrilla Aslan Siser said: “First of all, I commemorate comrade Bêrîtan with respect and gratitude on the anniversary of her martyrdom. Comrade Bêrîtan took resistance against surrender as a basis and did not submit to the enemy. The path she took formed the basis of the women's army. Her action is very meaningful and historic for us. We will always protect the values created by comrade Bêrîtan. Bêrîtan is the spirit of victory and freedom. Let the enemy know very well; it will be defeated in the mountains of Kurdistan.”

Guerrilla Siser continued: “The aim of the enemy with these attacks is to break the hope of our people for us. We take the strength to resist and struggle for freedom in these areas from our leader. We are inspired by Leader Apo's (Abdullah Öcalan’s) philosophy and resistance. The leader has been waging a relentless struggle in İmralı for years. On this basis, we will resist the attacks of the enemy until the end. We will duly respond to the enemy at the right place and time. We will always keep the spirit of resistance of our great commanders Bêrîtan and Egîd alive. This resistance is very historic for us. On this occasion, I once again commemorate the martyr Bêrîtan with respect and gratitude. We will continue our struggle in the line she bequeathed to us.”
