The 12th Congress of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was successfully held in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) between May 5 and 7. The congress was held in two different areas in parallel with delegates representing all areas of work.

The 12th Congress decided to dissolve the PKK's organizational structure and end the armed struggle, with the practical implementation process to be managed and carried out by Abdullah Öcalan, thereby ending the activities carried out under the name of the PKK.
