DTK calls for a boycott against schools for the right to mother tongue

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) called upon the people to boycott schools at the beginning of the new school year on September 28.

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) has released a statement regarding the right to use of mother language and education in mother tongue.

The press conference at DTK office in Amed was attended by DBP (Paarty of Democratic Regions) Co-President Emine Ayna, HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) deputies Kadri Yıldırım, Feleknas Uca, DTK Presidency Council member Mülkiye Birtane and representatives of many civil society organizations.

A statement made here by HDP Siirt deputy Kadri Yıldırım said the 2015-2016 school year in Turkey was beginning in an embarrassing state as 20 million Kurdish students were deprived of the right to use their mother language.

Recalling Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu's remarks "Kurds can lament in mother tongue now", Yıldırım pointed out that Kurds did not want lament in mother tongue. He said this statement manifested that massacres in the Kurdish region will continue.

Yıldırım continued; "AKP Spokesman Bülent Arınç says that Kurdish is not a language of civilization. Yet, the President had the Quran translated into Kurdish and presented it at rallies during the election process. We urge the government to abandon these policies. If they want to base on Islam, they must have a look at Qoran and see what it tells in this regard", quoting a verse from the Quran which says "Every language is a verse. If mother tongue is assimilated, the Quran is also assimilated".

Stressing that the Kurds and other peoples must all be able to use their mother tongue, the statement by DTK called upon the people to boycott schools at the beginning of the new school year on September 28.
