Demo for Öcalan's freedom in Shengal

People of Shengal staged a march to demand freedom for Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Hundreds living in Mount Shengal joined the march organized by Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly today to demand freedom for Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The march kicked off from the Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly building and continued until the Girê Nîska region in Kolak village, with participants chanting slogans and carrying banners for the Kurdish leader's freedom.

Rıhan Hıco spoke on behalf of the Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly and said the following:

“Through an unlawful and immoral isolation of 18 years, the fascist Turkish state brutally seeks to annihilate the will of Middle Eastern peoples in the person of Leader Apo, the architect of democratic civilization for oppressed peoples.”

Stressing that the resistance mounted by Öcalan in İmralı for 18 years has frustrated all the plans of the Turkish state, Hıco called on human rights organizations to take stance against the isolation imposed on the Kurdish leader, and added:

“The people in this region have survived thanks to the ideas of Leader Apo. We call on all institutions and organizations for human rights to act to end the Turkish state's isolation on our Leader."
