15 August, considered as “resurrection fest” by the Kurdish people, was celebrated at its 31st anniversary in Mahkmur refugee camp with the participation of thousands who enjoyed the event by chanting slogans, singing songs and performing Kurdish traditional folk dance, halay.
Addressing the crowd, Makhmur People’s Assembly member Sinan Herekol said the 15 August spirit is continuing today in the mountains, cities and villages of Kurdistan, marching towards freedom. “The revolutionary enthusiasm, which has arisen in four parts of Kurdistan today certainly belongs to the spirit of 15 August. At the 31st anniversary of this historical move led by the commander Agit, the Kurdish people demonstrate that they will not accept anything other than their freedom”, said Herekol.
Herekol drew attention to the resistance waged in West, North, South and East Kurdistan, saying that it is the spirit of the 15 August Initiative that leads all this resistance. He added that not only the Kurds but also the all the peoples of the region wage a struggle against fascism today with the freedom spirit rose on 15 August.
Herekol further drew attention to the declarations of self-governance in North Kurdistan in many areas and added: “15 August spirit has paved the way for developing the self-governing structures of the people. This is a revolution, in which people determine their own faith. This process is irrevocable”.
The event continued until late hours with music performances of bands, including Koma Zagros, Koma Şehit Avesta, Koma Şanoya Kela Meme and performances of halay.
