Turkish attacks in South Kurdistan leave 602 villages at risk of evacuation, says NGO

CPT said that due to the new Turkish state’s airstrikes, the villages of Nepaxî, Bêr Kekurê and Kafya around Garê have been evacuated. 602 more villages are at risk of evacuation, and resettlement is not possible in approximately 400 villages.

Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) member Kameran Osman said that three more villages in Bashurê (South) Kurdistan have been evacuated as a result of the Turkish state’s attacks.

Osman had this to say about the Dînartê region of Duhok: "The intense bombardment carried out by Turkish armed drones and heavy weapons has created the possibility of a new military operation. Due to Turkey’s attacks, civilians in the villages of Nepaxî, Bêr Kekurê and Kafya around Garê Mountain in the Zêbarî region have left their homes and taken refuge in Dînartê and Akrê."

Akrê officials are threatening villagers

Osman said that Akrê district security officials warned the people living in these three villages to evacuate them on 4 February, and added: "The authorities told the people that if they didn't evacuate their villages, they would be responsible for their own lives. This situation is seriously disrupting the agricultural and animal husbandry activities of the villagers in the region."

602 more villages at risk of evacuation

Osman said that 183 villages have been completely evacuated so far due to the occupying Turkish state’s military operations against the Kurdistan Region, and added that 602 more villages are at risk. Resettlement, he said, is not possible in approximately 400 villages.
