Born in 1995 in Hakkari, Fatma Kaynak grew up in a patriotic family. Thanks to the patriotic consciousness of her family and the region she lived in, she got to know the PKK at a very young age. As she witnessed the enemy's genocidal attacks against the Kurdish people and the reality of occupation, she understood the reason for the emergence of the PKK much better. This reality was clearly seen in the schools of the system that did not accept the Kurdish existence, language and identity. The enemy's imposition of slavery on the Kurdish people and the non-recognition of women's will caused great anger in Fatma. She knew that a life of oppression and atrocity was a slave life and a life that should not be lived.
Fatma, who fell in love with the guerrillas because of their sacrifices in defending the people against the occupying Turkish state and the heroic epics of the guerrillas told around her, told her parents, ‘When I grow up, I will become a guerrilla and wear the clothes of the Apoists’. This is how Fatma defined her future and her goal in her childhood. Like many other children, she could have said that she wanted to be a doctor, teacher, engineer, lawyer, and so on. But because she knew the realities of her country very well, her dream was to become an Apoist guerrilla. Fatma, continued to adhere to her childhood dream as she grew up, and started to take part in youth work as a teenager. With her style and active participation in the work, she played an important role in organising young women and men and recruiting them to the ranks of the struggle. Fatma won the love of her comrades and the people and wanted to realise her childhood dream as soon as possible.
In 2015, the war in Kurdistan, the attacks of ISIS on Kobanê and Shengal and the martyrdom of hundreds of young people in these attacks had a great impact on Fatma. The first guerrilla fighter that Fatma met after getting to know the revolutionaries was Laşer (Köksal Çabuk). With Comrade Laşer, she got to know the Apoist movement even better and became attached to it. Comrade Lasher was one of those who showed Fatma the way to salvation. After receiving the news that Laşer had fallen a martyr in Cîlo, she decided to join the guerrilla ranks and not to leave Laşer's weapon on the ground. Fatman, aware that loyalty to the martyrs passed through taking their weapon and name, joined the guerrilla ranks in 2015 on this basis and took the name Jiyanda Laşer.
Guerrilla Jiyanda Laşer first moved to the Cîlo region and then to the Avaşîn area, where she received her first training. Guerrilla Jiyanda adapted to mountain and guerrilla life in a short time, and further developed herself militarily and ideologically with the training she received. After the new fighter training, she joined work in the Avaşîn region and fought there until 2021. Jiyanda expressed her feelings when she first put on her guerrilla clothes, which was her childhood dream, with the following words: ‘When I first put on these clothes, I felt like a member of a fedayeen (self-sacrificial) army.’ Guerrilla Jiyanda, who took part in many actions against the occupying Turkish army in the Avaşîn region, was wounded in an action in 2018, but recovered in a short time and continued her struggle from where she left off.
Avaşîn and the Zagros Mountains had a very important place in the life of comrade Jiyanda, who remained in the Avaşîn region for about 7 years. After years of struggle in Avaşîn, she moved to the Martyr Ibrahim Academy to receive military and ideological training in order to further develop herself ideologically. For guerrilla Jiyanda, Rêber Apo (Leader Abdullaj Öcalan) and martyrs mean meaningful life. Her participation and speeches were always grounded on this basis. She expressed her devotion to Rêber Apo and the martyrs with the following words: ‘I became clearer by getting to know the leader, the universality of whose philosophy impressed me a lot. For me, educating myself means being close to the leader and the martyrs. If we walk in the line of Rêber Apo, we become the PKK.’
Returning to the practical field as a more assertive and powerful YJA Star guerrilla after the training process, comrade Jiyanda started to fight in semi-mobile guerrilla teams. She fought at the forefront against the attacks carried out by the Turkish state against Metîna, Zap and Avaşîn regions since 2021, taking part in many actions against the enemy in Zap and Metîna. On 7 April 2024, while trying to cross the Zap water along with her comrade Berfîn Zîlan on her way for a mission, both guerrillas were drifted into water due to unfavourable weather conditions and lost their lives. The relentless struggle of the martyr Jiyanda, who dedicated her 9 years of resistance and heroism to her people, was inherited by her comrades.
