DEM Party office in Istanbul’s Esenyurt district raided by the police

The DEM Party office in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul was raided by the police, and books and pictures have been confiscated.

Police forces stormed the DEM Party office in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul and confiscated several books and photos.

No one was in the office at the time of the raid, and the door was forced open. When members tried to open the party office, they found the premises to be in a state of devastation, with posters torn from the walls and documents strewn about. After the raid, the district co-chairs, Rojda Yılmaz and Abdullah Arınan, were summoned to the police headquarters in the Fatih district.

The raid came after the removal and arrest of the district mayor, Ahmet Özer, of the CHP (Republican People's Party) on 30 November. The politician, who is of Kurdish origin and was elected mayor of the district in the local elections last March, was also voted for by many Kurds as part of a consensus decision between the CHP and the DEM Party in Esenyurt.
