The Health and Safety Labor Observatory (ISIG) published its Occupational Homicide Report for the month of January. According to the report, 177 workers lost their lives at work.
The report noted that 5 of those who lost their lives were children and 13 were immigrants, and that the highest number of deaths, 43, occurred in the construction/road sector. The transportation sector, where 28 workers lost their lives, was second. It was reported that 23 workers lost their lives in agriculture/forestry work, 17 in accommodation work, and 13 in trade and office work.
The report added that in January alone, 30 workers lost their lives in Istanbul alone.
The other places where deaths occurred were Ankara, Denizli, Konya, Adana, and Izmir.
The report noted that traffic accidents ranked first in terms of cause of death with 29 percent, while 14 percent of deaths were due to crushing, and 13 percent to falling from heights.
