IHD says ill prisoner Polat not given his medicines

Members of the Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch Prison Commission carried out their 'F' weekly action to draw attention to the condition of ill prisoners through social media accounts.

Action number 428 was dedicated to the situation of Ekim Polat, who is held in Manisa Akhisar T-Type Prison.

IHD member Meral Nergis Şahin paid tribute to Vefa Kartal, a prisoner who died of a heart attack last week.

'Violations of rights increased during the coronavirus outbreak'

Şahin said that the applications they received from prisoners in the last period were related to violations of health and right to life which have worsened during the coronavirus pandemic.

IHD member Mehmet Acettin, on the other hand, spoke about prisoner Polat. "The health condition of Ekim Polat, who has been sentenced to 24 years in prison are getting worse."

Acettin also shared the comments by Polat’s mother Songül Ilker. "My son's illness has worsened in prison. – she said - He has problems with his heart as well as a number of other issues. My son is not given the medicines he needs to take.”
