Cizire Region Lawyers: Turkish government responsible for the life of Öcalan

Cizire Region Lawyers expressed serious concern about Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and urged the legal authorities to assume their duties and to pressure the Turkish state to allow a meeting with Imrali.

Cizire Region Lawyers made a statement over the allegations on some social media accounts regarding the situation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. The lawyers said that these rumors cause serious concerns and should be answered urgently.

Many lawyers attended the press conference made in front of the Social Justice Council building in Qamishlo city.

Xedice İbrahim, co-chair of the Cizire Region Lawyers Association, read out the statement and said the following:

“On March 14, 2021, rumors spread about the life of Leader Abdullah Öcalan on some social media accounts. The source of these allegations is unknown. But such rumors spread from time to time in a systematic and deliberate manner. Immediate solutions must be found to these rumors that cause serious concerns.

The main reason for this information is related to the aggravated isolation imposed upon Leader Abdullah Öcalan which is against human rights and all international laws concerning the rights of political prisoners. International human rights organizations, legal organizations and related organizations should put pressure on the Turkish state to end the isolation and to allow Öcalan's family and lawyers to meet him.

As Cizire Region Lawyers who represent Leader Abdullah Öcalan, we call on all international organizations, committees and legal institutions to put pressure on the Turkish state to fulfill their responsibilities and to allow our lawyers to visit him under the supervision of relevant international organizations. In addition, the isolation should be ended, and the family and lawyers of Leader Abdullah Öcalan and other detainees should go to Imrali to clarify their health status.

The AKP-MHP government is responsible for the life of Leader Abdullah Öcalan. "
