75-year-old ill woman jailed for sending money to her prisoner daughter

75-year-old Hatice Yıldız, who was sentenced to prison for sending money to her daughter and her friend in jail, was arrested. The ill woman was taken out of the house on a stretcher.

A lawsuit was filed against 75-year-old prisoner mother Hatice Yıldız, who lives in Esenyurt, Istanbul, on the allegation of "funding an illegal organization" for sending money to her daughter in prison and her daughter's cellmate. After a 3-year trial, Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court sentenced Hatice Yıldız to 4 years and 2 months in prison on the charge of "funding an illegal organization". The decision of the local court was approved by the Court of Appeal.

Following the decision, the police went to the house of Hatice Yıldız, who suffers from many health problems. Hatice Yıldız was taken out of the house on a stretcher. She was first taken to the hospital by ambulance and then to Bakırköy Women's Closed Prison after the procedures at the courthouse.

Hatice Yıldız's son, Alper Yıldız, said: "Until today, sending money to prison has not been considered a crime by the law in Turkey. This decision is made within the framework of enemy law."
