Reporting for JINHA considered a “crime”

In the indictment prepared for JINHA reporter Aysel Işık, her social media posts and her working for JINHA were deemed criminal.

Aysel Işık is a reporter for the Jin News Agency (JINHA) that was shut down by the AKP-MHP alliance and a student in Şırnak University. Işık was detained while covering a story in Şırnak province on November 21, 2016. She was remanded in custody as the court cited her social media posts as reference and ruled for her arrest.

Işık was exiled from the Şırnak Prison to Urfa Type T Prison No. 2, and the indictment on her is now completed.

The indictment cites Işık’s occupation as a JINHA reporter as a crime. The first hearing will be held on March 1 at Şırnak 2nd High Criminal Court.
