Journalist Selamet Turan detained in Cizre

The Turkish regime's repression against the Kurdish press continues unabated.

Journalist Selamet Turan was taken into custody in Şırnak’s Cizre district on Friday.

Turkish police officers searched Turan's house in the Nuh neighbourhood in the morning.

Journalist Selamet Turan was detained after the searches and taken to the Şırnak Provincial Security Directorate.

No reason was given as to why Turan was detained.

According to the Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG) 'January 2024 Report on Rights Violations against Women Journalists', 9 female journalists are in prison while the trial of 18 journalists continues.

According to the Dicle Firat Journalists' Association (DFG), which presented a report in Amed (Diyarbakır) in January on the violation of the rights of media professionals in the past year, 57 journalists remain in prison in Turkey.
