HDP Muş MP, Şevin Coşkun, disclosed the 3-month (July-August-September) Press Report at a press conference held in the Parliament.
Coşkun said that this report covers various methods of oppression such as violence, detention, arrest, blocking, censorship against press workers, as well as the closure of media organizations.
Reminding that the journalists who exposed and covered the news about the two villagers detained by soldiers and thrown from an army helicopter in Van, were detained. Coşkun said:
"On 11 September access to Mezopotamya Agency was blocked. It was this agency that exposed that two citizens, Osman Şiban and Servet Turgut, were tortured and thrown from an army helicopter in Van.
The agency’s premises in Van were raided by police and agency’s journalists, Adnan Bilen, Cemil Uğur, Jinnews journalist Şehriban Abi, journalist Nazan Sala, Yeni Yaşam newspaper distributor Fehim Çetiner and former newspaper distributor Şükran Erdem were detained.”
According to the report, at least 130 journalists were tried in 56 cases in the last 3 months, while 10 journalists were sentenced to 51 years and 10 months in prison.
During the same period, 10 journalists were detained and 3 journalists were arrested. Coşkun called for the release of all journalists.
