Final election results in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq announced

The Iraqi Electoral Commission announced the final results of the elections for the Kurdistan Region Parliament. According to the electoral law, thirty of the one hundred seats in the parliament must be awarded to women.

The Iraqi High Electoral Commission published the final results of the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region on 20 September. According to the results, 39 of the one hundred seats in parliament will go to the KDP, 23 to the PUK and 15 to Nifşê Nû (New Generation). Of the five quota seats for the Syriacs (2), the Turkmen (2) and the Armenians (1), three will go to KDP-affiliated MPs and two to PUK-affiliated MPs.

According to the electoral law of the Kurdistan Region, at least 30 percent of the deputies must be women. The gender quota, which was reconfirmed by the Iraqi Electoral Commission ahead of this year's elections, stipulates that parties must not fall short of this percentage. In addition, one of the seats reserved for the Christian and Turkmen communities must go to a woman.
