In the regions of Northern and Eastern Syria, education is provided in the mother tongue. According to the Social Contract accepted by the Democratic Autonomous Administration, all languages in the region are equal. Every nation or minority has the right to organize and receive education in their native language.
The Social Contract includes three primary languages: Kurdish, Arabic, and Syriac. Each group has the right to be educated in its own language. Students can learn their mother tongues as well as any other languages they wish to study.
Educational materials have been prepared in three languages for primary, secondary, and high school education.
In the city of Shaddadi in the Cizîrê Canton, education is provided in Arabic. However, students are also given education in Kurdish.
Speaking to ANHA, Kurdish language teacher Mihemed Faris Huda El Cebir said that their goal is to ensure that students learn Kurdish, strengthen their cultural ties, and create opportunities to recognize other peoples.
The Education and Learning Center in Shaddadi provides training courses for teachers to enhance education and prepares educational materials for students.
Mihemed Faris Huda El Cebir and teacher Celîle El Dixêm noted that the number of students in the city is increasing, and added that the number of teachers in different subjects will also increase.
El Dixêm emphasized that this education system enhances students' skills and encourages them to work.
There are 100 primary, secondary, and high schools in Shaddadi, providing education in two shifts.
Mecid Mihemed, spokesperson for the Shaddadi Education Center Census Committee, stated: "Last year, the number of students was 9,300, while this year there are 12,000 students studying in the city’s schools. There are 1,100 teachers providing education in schools. Despite the difficulties, the number of students has increased due to the dedicated efforts of teachers and educators."
Faris and El Dixêm said: "It is true that we have made significant progress; however, we still face deficiencies in scientific and intellectual subjects. We are continuing our efforts to resolve these issues."
The Shaddadi Education and Learning Center periodically organizes exhibitions and competitions for students to develop their education and skills.
