Dicle News Agency (DIHA) reporter Murat Çiftçi has been arrested at the Prosecution Office of Urfa where he was called to give a statement within the scope of an investigation opened against him in connection with news he had earlier reported. Çiftçi was accused of “affecting fair trial” and “membership to an illegal organization.
The investigation against DIHA reporter was conducted by Diyarbakýr Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in connection with a news where Çiftçi told about Gülistan Encü, the key name of “Urfa KCK” file which led to the arrest of nine people including BDP Urfa MP Ýbrahim Ayhan on January 5,2010.
Çiftçi, who was called to Urfa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to testify within the scope of the investigation, was arrested here and sent to Urfa E-Type Prison.
After being taken into custody within the scope of operations which were carried out by the instruction of Istanbul 10th High Criminal Court in 17 provinces on January 13, Çiftçi was released after giving statement to the court.
