Hundreds of thousands of people filled squares all around Turkey on Tuesday to mark May 1, workers' Day.
Members of trade unions and other civil society organizations in Ýstanbul met in Taksim Square, coming from Þiþli, Beþiktaþ and Þiþhane. People chanted slogans and held posters celebrating May 1. The celebrations in Taksim started with a commemoration ceremony for the victims of Bloody May Day, May 1 in 1977 when unknown snipers opened fire onto the crowd in Taksim, killing dozens of people.
In Dersim, there was a scuffle ahead of the celebrations after a police provocation.
KESK and DÝSK gathered in Ankara’s Sýhhiye Square, where hundreds of thousands gathered to mark the day.
In Diyarbakýr skirmishes between a group of young people and the police erupted in the neighbourhood of Baðlar.
