Turk: DTK to work to extend democracy

Speaking at the health conference organised by Democratic Society Congress (DTK), the co-chair Ahmet Turk said those who are supporting democracy should ask themselves “How democrat am I?” Other DTK co-chair Aysel Tugluk said they will try hard to implement the Democratic Autonomy project and they will ask for a constitutional respond for it.

The health conference of DTK health commission took place at Cegerxwin cultural center in Diyarbakir and psychological traumas caused by 30-year conflict in the region and access to health care in mother tongue were discussed for two days.

Türk: We are talking about democracy but how democrat are we?

Ahmet Turk said that DTK was established in order to raise the democratic understanding and organising civil initiatives therefore they have gathered all diversities and colours under the roof of DTK. He further said that no problem can be solved without democracy and they need to question themselves about what they have done so far in order to establish a democratic awareness within the society and politics. “The Kurds paid heavy prices however due lack of political grounds we have fails to create a democratic culture which has always been an obstacle in front of reaching our goals.” added Turk.

Turk also said that DTK will devote itself for extending democracy culture to every field within the civilian life and added: “This will not be an easy task however it is a project which we will try hard to realize.”

Turk meanwhile stated that the 30-year conflict has left negative affect over Kurdish people and DTK health commission will endeavour to help people to recover. He also added that Democratic Autonomy will also help people to get over their trauma. Turk further said that DTK will also work on economic and social aspects of the trauma faced by both the Kurds and Turks which eventually cause an inter-nations trauma.

Tuðluk: DTK Health Commission aims at creating a health society

DTK co-chair Aysel Tugluk reminded that the Kurdish society was deprived of the right to determine it future by the interventions into its natural development and said Kurds has suffered a ruthless war based on denial, suppression and intimidation. She further stated that such an environment has disturbed not only the children and women but also the rest of the society and added: “Our conference is aiming at not only physical health care and access to health care but also recovering the trauma and dealing with social and cultural problems.”

Criticizing the health practices of AKP Tugluk said Turkey is supposed to be a social state but the green card (health insurance card for the persons with no or low-income) is abused by the government and launched like a gift from AKP in order to gain votes. She also said that health care is a fundamental right and should not be abused for the sake of politics. She further reminded that governor offices are cancelling green cards of the politicized Kurds unlawfully as an intimidation method and said health care should not be used as a weapon against political opposition and the Kurds.
