The funeral of HPG guerrilla Adem Askan (Canþêr Çempîrî), one of the 12 Kurdish guerrillas who lost their life between Friday 13 and Saturday 14 in Uludere, has been attended by 30 thousand people late last night. The people chanted the slogan "Þehîd namirin", "martyrs do not die". Speaking at the funeral, Askan’s father Halit Askan expressed his anger saying: “Prime Minister Erdogan is a Dajjal [evil figure in Islamic eschatology] committing a slaughter”, while Hakkari Independent Candidate Adil Kurt said as follows: “I promise not to talk about peace as long as this slaughter continues.”
Taking the body of Adem Askan (Canþêr Çempîrî) from Hakkari State Hospital’s morgue, 30 thousand people marched to the Serê Solan Cemetery. In the city where all the shutters are taken down, tens of thousands flocked into the cemetery in accompany with slogans, banners and chants. The march was also joined by BDP Hakkari Provincial Chair Orhan Koparan, Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block candidates Esat Canan, Adil Kurt, Van Candidate Nazmi Gür and Hakkari Mayor Fadýl Bedirhanoglu as well as thousands.
While the mass was surrounded and shrouded by young people calling themselves "self-defense forces", police pulled back and almost emptied the route following the walk out of thousands.
Askan’s body was carried to the graveyard on shoulders and buried in the area of HPG members’s graves who lost their life at various times. While young people hung PKK and Confederation flags and PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan’s posters around the cemetery which was covered by yellow, red and green colors; a minute of silence was kept after the burial procedures in commemoration of those who have lost their lives in the struggle for democracy and freedom. Following the minute of silence, the mass sang the torch "Çerxa Þoreþê" and chanted slogans like “Erdogan murderer”.
Speaking after the burial procedures, Askan’s father Halit Askan thanked the people for the participation and said the followings; "I thank everyone for such a splendid meeting. My son is the martyr of the Kurdish people, not our family’s. Erdogan is the greatest Dajjal (a liar person with evilest creation believed to appear at a short time before the end of the world according to religious beliefs). Here, I am making a call; all honorable Kurds must protect their honor. We must fight to ensure the Dajjal [referred here to Erdogan the devil] does not get a single vote from us. Erdogan is a Dajjal committing a massacre against the Kurdish people.” Mother Naam Askan thanked the people of Hakkari and expressed that she held her head high with a proud of his son.
While Hakkari Mayor Fadýl Bedirhanoglu said that “If this massacre continues while guerrillas are observing a self defense position, it will be the confirmation of the two-faced Erdogan and his government that are using special efforts to kill the Kurdish youngsters despite the self defense position of the Kurdish people."
Calling on Erdogan, the Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block Hakkari Candidate Esat Can said; “If you don’t hold this hand now, you will not find any hand for peace in coming period. You should understand this and stop this massacre now.”
The speeches were followed by the Block’s Hakkari Independent Candidate Adil Kurt who appealed to the Askan family: “Do you see that there are tens of thousands Adems in this area? Your son hasn’t died, he is here, in each and every one of these thousand young people. We hope he will be our last martyr. I promise you now that I will not talk about the word ‘peace’ as long as this massacre continues, unless a step is taken for peace. All of our calls for peace have been met by massacres so far.”
Following the speeches, the mass left the graveyard and walked to the city center while a tent of condolence was put up for Askan near the Democratic Solution Tent. The family is accepting condolences there.
