Social Memory Platform rised questions about Sivas massacre suspect

The Social Memory Platform has released a statement about the apparent death of one of those considered responsible of the Sivas massacre. It has been said that Cafer Erçakmak, who had an Interpol international arrest order, had actually returned to Sivas and died there, apparently last week.

The Platform writes to be expecting "an explanation from the authorities regarding the events surrounding the death of Cafer Erçakmak".

The Platfor continues saying that "Cafer Erçakmak, one of the chief suspects in the massacre was sought by Ankara 11. High Criminal Court since 7 January 2006 but somehow was not found. He died in Sivas a few days ago and was secretly buried by his close acquaintances in the Yukarýtekke Cemetery on Sunday, according to the press. Despite the frequent notifications of the lawyers to the court concerning the worries about negligence in the search for the leading instigator of the massacre and the formal documents reporting Erçakmak as living in France, it has come into open that Erçakmak was living in Sivas for some time before he died".

The Social Memory Platform then asks some questions: 1) Is it true that Cafer Erçakmak died and was buried in Sivas? 2) According to official reports, Cafer Erçakmak was living in France. So, have these 'official' institutions misled the law? The public needs to be disclosed about the perpetrators of this mislead. Do we need to conclude that official institutions were mislead by the 'official' documents? 3) It was concealed in international correspondences that Cafer Erçakmak was sought in connection to genocide, while the reason for his sought was reported as opposing the law on meetings and demonstrations. So, who protects Erçakmak? 4) Who should give an answer to how Erçakmak could return and settle in Sivas while being sought by Interpol with a red notice? 5) Who is the responsible that a name, approved as the leading instigator of the Sivas Genocide, can easily live in the city before the eyes of the government and its intelligence units? 6) As it is a civil service to bring to the suspect to the court, families of the victims are worried that the government didn't pay enough attention to submit the suspect to justice".

The forces behind the Sivas massacre, concludes the Platform haven't been revealed until today and the government institutions have neglected to duly perform their duties. As Social Memory Platform, we are calling on the relevant authorities to determine the identity of Cafer Erçakmak who is regarded by the court as the leading instigator in the Madýmak fire that killed 37 people. We are also calling on the government and its relevant authorities to duly perform their duties in the case of other six suspects before any prescription".
