The Confederation of Kurdistan Societies in Germany (KON-MED) issued a statement in response to the video message released by Abdullah Öcalan on 9 July.
The statement said: "The video message published by Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan on July 9, 2025, once again revealed how vitally important social peace is, especially in Kurdistan, but also in the region and the world. In a time when the center of the war waged by Israel in Lebanon and Syria is shifting toward Iran, and the lives and futures of millions in the region are under threat, defending regional peace and assuming a decisive role in it is a stance that only a honest and principled leadership and movements can take."
The statement added: "In a world where everyone’s future is based on destroying the other, to say, ‘I believe in the power of politics and social peace, not weapons, and I call on you to bring this principle to life!’ is neither an ordinary statement nor an ordinary act. Leader Apo and the guerrilla front, who have historically resisted through a struggle for existence and identity for centuries and proved their invincibility to the world through relentless war and resistance over the last fifty years, have provided a chance and ground for peaceful solutions to problems to prevent the inevitable social tragedies in the region."
The statement continued: "As KON-MED, the Confederation of Kurdistan Societies in Germany, we want to express that we see it as a fundamental duty to support this historic step. We want it to be known that we are ready to make every necessary effort and sacrifice for this meaningful step—unprecedented in the history of humanity and civilization—to reach its goal.
It is an undeniable truth that the most needed thing in our world today is social peace and democratic politics for the benefit of all. Recent developments in the region clearly confirm the urgency and importance of this historic move. On this basis, we call on all states, international institutions, social groups, organizations, and political movements that value peace and the preservation of human relations to support the historic courage demonstrated in this process.
It must not be forgotten that peace in Kurdistan means peace in the region. And peace in the region will pave the way for peace in the world."
