Once again the Saturday Mothers gathered in front of Galatasaray High School, in the heart of Istanbul. For the 356th time they staged a sit in asking for justice for their loved ones who were forcibly been disappeared by bodies of the gendarmerie or killed by 'unknown killers' who are indeed all but unknown.
The mothers in their speeches recalled the new remains which are being found in the gardens of military facilities. "The earth is giving back the bodies she hold for so long". The mothers asked for the state to be held to account for the crimes committed.
Supported by Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Istanbul Deputy Sabahat Tuncel and artist Zeynep Tanbay, the Saturday Mothers dedicated their meeting to Ýsmail Þahin who was kidnapped on January 18, 1996 while working for Beyoðlu Municipality as a cleaning worker and to Murat Yýldýz, who was taken into custody on February 23, 1995.
Kurdish Saturday Mothers (Dayikên Þemîyê) in the Cizre District of Þýrnak, also staged a sit in to condemn the extrajudicial killings and forced disappearances which happened mostly in the 1990s. Kurdish mothers dedicated their meeting to Ahmet Özer, who was taken into custody with his three friends and dropped from a chopper on July 13, 1993.
